Potters Cake Boutique -
How much notice does Potters Cake Boutique require for celebration cakes ?
It really depends on the intricacy of your design and to avoid disappointment it is best to place your order as soon as possible, at least three weeks’ notice is preferable.
How much notice does Potters Cake Boutique require for a wedding cake ?
Again it depends on the intricacy but for wedding cakes at least 3 months notice is required.

What affects the cost of a cake ?
Figurines & models A cake that has figures on it will add to the price of a cake. Animal figures require specialist Mexican modelling paste and take between 30 and 90 minutes to model (each add from £10+ to overall price), and dressed human figurines with facial expressions take around 1.5-2 hours to make (each add from £25+ to overall price). Also bear in mind that little models of items will add to the price - the intricacy of the items and number of them is proportional to the cost.
'Technical' cakes A cake that requires a technical representation such as, say, a car cake, camera cake, or an electric guitar cake, requires critical attention to proportions and measurements for a respectable likeness which takes time and must be factored into the overall cost.
Sculpted Cakes 3D cakes that need to be sculpted into a shape such as a car, a 3D animal cake or, for example, the Great Britain cake will involve wastage of cake, so the cost of this wastage must be factored into the overall cost.
A metallic, shiny coloured cake Cakes that are very silvery, gold, pearlescent, or metallic in colour will be more expensive as the metallic shiny edible paints and sprays are more costly than other colours. For cakes that require shiny gold detail, I often use 24ct gold leaf (real gold and completely edible) powder for a stunning finish. Overall size of the cake Most novelty and standard celebration cakes will feed on average between 35 and 45 people. If your cake is to cater for more people than this, then the cake will cost more. Flavour of the cake Cakes made with chocolate and also alcohol will cost more than other sponge flavours. Fruit cake costs considerably more than sponge cake since it is full of rich ingredients.
Candles I don't generally supply candles for cakes. However, I will source them for you if requested and add this to the cake price - depending on the number and type of candles you require.

Payment & Deposit
A 25% or £25.00 non-refundable deposit to required at the time of booking to secure you order.
Delivery & Set up
Delivery within a 5 mile radius of Orpington is free.  For locations outside of this area then a small charge will be made to cover the cost of fuel etc.  For larger celebration cakes or wedding cakes we can attend your venue and set the cake up for you, a small fee may be levied for this service.
Will the cake be home made ?
All the sponge cakes are freshly baked for each specific order, they are made from good quality well known branded ingredients and kite marked organic eggs.  The buttercream is also made with branded ingredients and for the jam I use Wilkin & Sons raspberry seedless jam which is prepared with 70g of fruit per 100g.
Do you produce cakes other than those featured in your gallery?
Yes, I am happy to discuss your requirements in further detail, please contact me through the contact page on this website.
How much cake will I need to feed my guests ?
Portion size is determined by the type and shape of cake you have, for example due to its rich taste and texture a portion of luxury fruit cake is smaller than that of sponge. Below is a chart detailing the average portion sizes for each size/shape of cake, the chart is to be used as a guide only and portion size depends hugely on how the cake is cut and personal preference......
What is the shelf life of my cake ?
Sponge cake will last for approximately 1 week after collection/delivery and Fruit cake will last for months if stored correctly.
Cakes should be stored in a cool dark place, preferably in the cake box supplied with your cake. Do not put your cake in the fridge as this will cause the icing to sweat when the cake returns to room temperature.
If you have any other queries or questions that are not noted above then please do not hesitate to contact me via the contact page or alternatively you can e-mail me at cakes@potterscakeboutique.com
